Like A Phoenix From The Ashes

Greetings People of Dreamwidth

I am Phoenix and welcome to my new blog. Phoenix, that's me. Sometimes Nix, never Fee. I'm gender fluid, pansexual, polyamorous and my pronouns are she/they. And no, because someone always asks, Phoenix is not the name I was given at birth but it's one I've been using for a few years and have recently legally changed it. Pretty much everything is new right now - new name, new house, new job, new blog. So I'm re-reading a comfortable old friend of a book: Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief, and remembering my love for Greek mythology and then mythology in general and then classical history.

I'm also reading a hefty anthropological tome called How Humans Evolved. The first section is 'how evolution works' and I've only so far read the first chapter 'Adaption by Natural Selection' which talks about Darwin's theory of evolution, how competition, variation, and heritability lead to evolution by natural selection, why natural selection sometimes causes species to become better adapted to their environments and why some species remain the same. I'm making myself out to be a total nerd here, aren't I? I mean, I am but I was kind of hoping to be at least cool on the internet, even if just for a day or so!

Books. That's something I'll talk about a lot. I very rarely go anywhere without at least one book and possibly even my Kindle. And even if I don't have my Kindle, I have the app on my phone. What kind of books will I be talking about? Ones with words in, she says somewhat facetiously. Except they actually kind of mean it. I don't really have a 'favourite' genre. I'm terrible about the concepts of 'favourites' in general - how am I supposed to choose?! I enjoy fantasy, history, horror, paranormal, ya, adventure, mythology, urban fantasy, magic, anthropology, vampires, supernatural, geography... eclectic probably should be my middle name.

Music. Films. Television. Cooking. Disney. Mental health. Sexuality. To-do lists. Politics. Self care.
These are also things I'll post about. For the most part, I'm an introvert and I love my cat more than most people so you're far more likely to find me crying and drunk posting about the Library of Alexandria than anything else. And I'll definitely be info-dump posting about whatever rabbit hole of utterly random shit I've fallen into most recently. I swear info dumping is my main love language!

I happily nerd out about anthropology, social anthropology, classical or medieval history, feminism, hedgehogs, human biology, cricket, football, sustainability or the influence of fossils on the mythology of various cultures throughout history.

So that's me. And it's 01:08 on a Thursday morning, I should probably be logging off and at least trying to get some sleep but I'll probably be trying to find a new layout because I'm not sold on this one
